What is the main sport in the United States?

I would have to guess football is our biggest sport. I may be wrong. The reason is because of how many people constantly watch football on Sundays and how most of the the stadiums are filled to their brims with fans most of the time. No matter how good or bad the team may be. That and the fact that the Super Bowl is one of the most watched sporting events every year.

Take a survey on what you think our national sport is:

Peruvian Soccer:

For this South American country, soccer is undoubtedly the number one sport that kids and adults play in their spare time. They play a different type of soccer that is similar to futsal. The Peruvians play on a basketball court, but they have nets at the ends of the court. The nets are a little wider than hockey nets, but they are about 3 feet taller. Sports that branched off from soccer: The Ivory Coast: How soccer stopped a Civil War An amazing story about the power of soccer and the influence it has on people.
Futsal: the origin of this game can be dated back to Montevideo, Uraguay,  when Juan Carlos Ceriani devised a five-a-side version of soccer. It was created for youth in the YMCAs. It was played on basketball sized courts, indoors and without the use of sidewalls.

Sepak Takraw (Kick Volleyball): This ancient game originated in Malaysia and has become their national sport. This sport combines elements of soccer, footbag, volleyball, baseball, badminton, gymnastic and the ancient sport of sepak raga. Balls used to be woven with rattan stems, and they have now been replaced with synthetic balls, which are safer and more durable. For more information about how Sepak Takraw click Sepak Takraw.

The Christmas Truce of 1914 How on Christmas Day two sides in World War I put down their weapons and played a game of soccer and ceased fighting.

What I hope to accomplish and how:
I want to see how big soccer actually is in Peru and other foreign countries, compared to how America views our national sport, whatever that may be. I will do this by interviewing people that have been professional athletes and those who have not. Then while in Peru, I will interview a native Peruvian to see what their national sport is and how it effects their lives. By interviewing different people I will hope to see how culture here in America revolves around our national sport compared to the national sport of Peru, soccer.

How about Peru?

The simple fact is that soccer may never be as big as in Europe. Unless, people get their kids involved in this fantastic sport that many Americans already enjoy and love. With this, it has a chance, soccer is quickly becoming the fastest growing sport in America, that's for sure. However, today many of the older players are ruining the sport by taking dives and fighting in their matches. Soccer is not that kind of game, it is a game of honor, skill, and pace (speed). Please,  save this amazing sport. If your kids are in soccer make sure they are playing for the love of the game.
