I wrote this for my project.  This is for part of my grade.  Here is the criteria:
  1. Write a general list of where we went and what we did.
  2. Write something I learned about the country that we were in.
  3. Write about an exchange with the natives of that country.
  4. Write about something that I learned about the natives of the country that we were in.
  5. Write about something that I learned about myself.

I had to do those five things for every day that we were in Europe.

  • 3/27/08-Left for Europe.

· 3/28/08- Scotland - 1. We went to the airport in Amsterdam where we had a 5 hour layover and then an hour delay.  Met Vicky, our tour guide for the entire trip.  Did a quick walking tour.  Ate at a Spanish tapa restaurant.  Went on a ghost tour.

2. What I learned about Scotland- I didn't realize that the city of Edinburgh would seem like a smaller, older version of New York.

3. Exchange with a native- We did not have enough time to talk with the natives, unless you count the ghost tour’s guide.

4. What I learned about people in Scotland- they accused others of being witches until the 1940s, according to the ghost tour guide.

5. Something I learned about myself- I am not afraid of flying unless I look out of the window

· 3/29/08- Scotland- 1. List of things we did- Got up late at 7:45.  We had breakfast at 8.  Went on a bus tour around Edinburgh.  Went to

Edinburgh castle and had a tour around there.  Went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch.  Went shopping on Princes Street for three hours.  Sat on a train from Scotland to England for five hours.  We watched drunken Scottish people sing.  Talked to a group of English boys that were my age and interviewed them.  Arrived at the hotel.

2. Something about London- Curry is the most popular dish in London.

3. Exchange with a native- I interviewed our tour guide from Edinburgh, David.  I talked to and interviewed the English boys from the train.

4. Something about the natives- The English have no problems with swearing, especially schoolboys.

5. Something about myself- I am finding out that interviewing locals is not as bad as I thought that it was.

·3/30/08- London- 1. List of where we went - Walking tour of London.  Set free for five hours in the city.  Saw several street performers in Covent Gardens.  Met the new group.  They are from Arizona.  I do not think that the group leader likes us.  We went on a Tube race.  My team won.

2.  What I learned about London- Big Ben is not the clock, it is the bell.  Street performers must have a permit to perform in the city.

3. Exchange with a native- We met Vicky’s dad.  I bought a cookie, hot chocolate, and earrings at Covent Gardens.

4. Something I learned about the natives- Fish and chips are getting less popular because of the shortage of cod.  Street performers are passing around a petition to prevent their income from lessening by 50%.

5. Something I learned about myself- I do not like mango sorbet.

·3/31/08- London- 1. List of where we went- Took a bus tour around London.  The guard almost attacked Ken. Went to the tower of London and took a tour.  Went on a ferry ride on the Thames River.  Ate at a pub and had fish 'n chips.  Went and rode the Eye, the massive Ferris wheel with glass bulbs where the riders sit in.

2. Something I learned about the country- Big Ben the clock is really called the Westminster clock.

3. Exchange with native- I ordered a bagel at Victoria station.

4. I learned about natives- Queen Elizabeth II thinks of the Buckingham palace as her office instead of a home.

5.  About myself- I like fish 'n chips.

·4/1/08- 1. List of where we went- Went to Campton market.  The group was afraid for some reason.  Went to King's Cross to see platform 9 3/4 and take pictures.  Switched groups and did the same thing.  Went to see Monty Python’s Spamalot.  Sat at a cafe and got yelled at by the French waitress for weird reasons.

2. What I learned about the country- Campton market has very nice shops and several good food stalls.

3. Exchange with a native- A lady interviewed us by Campton market for her book, and I ordered pizza.

4. What I learned about natives- There are many Indian and gothic people in the country.

2. What I learned about France- Notre Dame's front is not as old as the back.  They paint the Eiffel tower and it takes ten weeks to do the whole project.

3. Exchange with native- I ordered a crepe with nutella.

4. What I learned about natives- They are more helpful than I thought they would be.

5. What I learned about myself- I know much more French than I thought that I did.

2. What about the country- on the champs, one side is more expensive to rent than the other because that side has sunlight the whole day.

3. Exchange with native- I bought prints of France.  A native tried to help me get a drink from a vending machine with no success.

4. What about natives- The Eiffel tower vendors will not leave you alone and will attack you in groups.

5. What about myself- I think that flam is very good.  I am still deathly afraid of heights because of the last elevator up the Eiffel tower.

·3/4/08- France- 1. List of things we did- Went to Montmartre.  Saw the cathedral.  Went shopping at the many little shops.  Ate a crepe with nutella and whipped cream and pet the owners' cat, Nana.  Sat on steps and had my hair done in pigtails.  Rode on a two-story carousel.  Ate a three course dinner.  Rode on a night train.  Had an April fools joke played on us.

2. Something about Barcelona- La Sagrada Familia has been under construction for 125 years and is only 55% done.

3. Exchange with natives- Bought a lot of stuff.  Interviewed Belen, our tour guide.

4. About natives- almost all of them are nice and bilingual.

5. About me- Octopus is not that bad.

·3/6/08- Barcelona- 1. List of things we did- Had a free day.  Walked around las ramblas until lunch.  Ate lunch at the hotel.  Went to the beach to tan for a few hours.  The other group left for the flamenco dance.  Ate dinner at McDonalds.  Wandered with Britt, Ken, Allison, Jackie, Andy, Señor, and Miss Hall around las ramblas.  Sat at a café/bar, and Jackie got a free shot that was alcoholic.  She did not drink it.  Got ice cream and went to the hotel.

2. About Spain- They have absolutely no restraints on alcohol distribution.

3. Exchange- Bought a lot of things at a lot of different markets.  I spoke in Spanish for most of the time.

4. About natives- They are perfectly comfortable with stripping and wearing speedos on the beach.
