All Blacks Rugby

New Zealand is very well known for their rugby team. Besides being superb athletically, the All Blacks have a very famous war dance they perform before each match: the Haka. In general, the Haka is any dance performed by Maori warriors, but the All Blacks have taken it to a new level. It's purpose is quite obvious. They do the Haka to intimidate their opponents and express their passion, vigor, and identity towards the game of rugby. The Haka

Maori:

Ka mate! Ka mate!

Ka ora! Ka ora!

Ka mate! Ka mate!

Ka ora! Ka ora!

Tenei te tangata pu-huru-huru,

Nana nei i tiki mai whakawhiti te ra!

Upane! Upane!

Hupane! Kaupane!

Whiti te ra! Hi!

English:

It is death! It is death!

It is life! It is life!

It is death! It is death!

It is life! It is life!

This is the hairy man,

Who fetched and made the sun shine!

Together! Together!

Up the step! Up the ladder!

Out comes the sun! Ahh!
