¡Pura Vida! What's That? |
| Pura Vida. What exactly is that? Translated literally it
means "pure life", but what does it mean to the people of Costa Rica? When I
asked our tour guide Mario how he was that day, he responded by saying
"'Pura Vida'". I looked at him and gave him the typical smile that clearly
said, "I have no idea what that means". He then decided that since our tour
group was going to be spending the next week in Costa Rica, he'd better
explain.

| To a Costa Rican, Pura Vida can mean anything that you want it to mean, but only in Costa Rica. If a Spaniard asked you how you were and you responded 'Pura Vida', they'd probably look at you like you were crazy. But not in Costa Rica. It is considered the national saying and I can say from experience, it's lots of fun to say!!! So, to everyone who visits this website let me be the first to say ¡Pura Vida! to you!!! You can interpret the meaning!
